Running Marathons isn't how you do good health
Chronic running actually does more harm than good
Marathons have always been praised for all the good deeds associated with it. That “Breast cancer” 5k run, remember that? I’m sure you do.
It’s all well & good until running marathon becomes a hobby and you are only running, all the damn time.
Completing Marathons are wrongly described as the epitome of good health. It’s like this unspoken belief that if you can run a marathon, you must be really healthy which isn’t true at all.
Running extensively every day without lifting weights makes your body lose muscle mass, now all my followers on twitter know (i hope so) how bad losing muscle mass is
There’s a common notion that people die because of old age but what they don’t realise is, it’s actually due to their low muscle mass & not their age
If a normal person doesn’t lift weights, he will have minimal muscle mass by the time he’s in his 60’s (if he survives)
Muscle mass decreases approximately 3–8% per decade after the age of 30 and this rate of decline is even higher after the age of 60.
That’s why it’s so important to eat atleast 1.2-1.4g per kg bodyweight of protein everyday even if you don’t workout, so that the muscles keep getting enough to stay where they are if not grow
Some of the best coaches in the world also view long distance running as counter productive.
So what can you do instead? Sprint.
Run as fast as you can, for as long as you can. I personally do 2-3x 15s sprints every other week. It’s great for your whole body.
"Run but lift weights, lift weights nevertheless”
and that’s it for this time
See you next week,
Regards,
Rusty
